Do you like paying the full retail price when you shop? Neither do I, it just feels wrong. That’s why when I discovered Ebates in late 2008, I realized that I would rarely have to pay full price again. In 8 years, I have received over $1,600 in money back – as in CASH back to me with no effort on my part. In fact, the savings that I have received through Ebates has been even greater than the cash back and I’ll explain this further in the post. Ebates is 100% FREE to use. Let’s start with…
Is Ebates a scam?
No, it is not a scam. The Big Fat Checks – what they call their rebate checks arrive promptly and I have been depositing them for more than 8 years. Here’s a picture of my latest check:
What is Ebates?
Ebates is according to their website, “the pioneer and leader of online Cash Back Shopping. The company was founded in 1998 by two Deputy District Attorneys in Silicon Valley who used to prosecute online fraud & identity theft before starting Ebates (so you can be sure we are very into secure online transactions!). Joining Ebates is always free – you’ll never pay us anything. And four times a year or more, we’ll mail you a Big Fat Check, or transfer the money to your PayPal account if you’d prefer. All 100% free.”
How does it work?
- Sign up for Ebates.
- Shop through Ebates at your favorite stores (there are tons such as Nordstrom, Macys. Old Navy, Sears, Express, Diapers.com, Kohl’s, Walmart, the list goes on)
- Earn cash back on your purchases.
- Get your Big Fat Check (this is what they call your rebate check which is mailed to you)
You can get up to 40% back on almost anything you buy at more than 2000+ stores with cash back at Ebates and tons of coupons which you can STACK for additional savings. Remember when I mentioned that the savings that I have received through Ebates has been even greater than the cash back, well the coupons are how I save even more.
You can use your own online coupons once you go through the Ebates links, but Ebates makes saving money so simple! They have thousands of coupons already linked to the stores that you shop at so even though I know I will get my cash back rebate from Ebates, I’m saving even more money right off the top with my coupon.
Show me the money
Here is a recent example of how Ebates has saved me a lot of money. I needed to buy a few things from JC Penney so I went to the Ebates website and typed in JC Penney to see what coupons/deals come up:
I clicked one of the links to take me to JC Penney and I shopped online like I normally do by putting the items in the online cart that I want to purchase. When I was ready to check out, I used the coupon code that would give me the best value. Shortly after you have made your purchase through Ebates, you will receive a Cash Back Update email which will reflect the rebate amount that you’ve earned:
As you can see, I saved $12.26 ($102.17 x 12% Ebates rebate) by going through the Ebates link and will receive that in my Big Fat Check. However, I also saved $43.80 by using the coupon code that they had listed on their website for a grand total savings of $56.06. Oh yeah!!
This is just one example of savings through Ebates. I have used Ebates to buy all sorts of things – a washing machine from Sears, magazine subscriptions, any gifts that need to be ordered online and shipped, etc. There’s even an app that you can put on your computer or phone so that if you do go to an Ebates store, it will pop up with a reminder asking if you want to activate the rebate link.
They will often have double cash back for certain stores at different times of the year – typically around the different holidays, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc. I’ve been saving money with Ebates for years and can’t imagine paying retail without it. Are you interested in checking it out? If so, click here to sign up with Ebates, and when you spend $25 online, you will receive a $10 cash back welcome bonus!
